چکیده

Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices coupled to gradiometers were used to detect aws in metals. We detected aws in aluminum samples carrying current, measuring elds at lift-o distances up to one order of magnitude larger than the size of the aw. Con gured as a susceptometer we detected surface-braking aws in steel samples, measuring the distortion on the applied magnetic eld. We also used spatial ltering techniques to enhance the visualization of the magnetic eld due to the aws. In order to assess its severity, we used the generalized inverse method and singular value decomposition to reconstruct small spherical inclusions in steel. In addition, nite elements and optimization techniques were used to image complex shaped aws.

Applications of Image Reconstruction in NDE

The nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of materials often involves the solution of an inverse problem. It is shown that image reconstruction techniques lead to the direct solution of the 3-D inverse problem when radiographic measurements are made. In particular, it is sugg_~ted that the convolve-and-backproject solution to the 3-D divergent ray geometry problem should be useful for NDE. There is a...

Development and Applications of SQUIDs in Korea

As sensitive magnetic sensors, magnetometers based on superconducting quantum interference devices can be used for the detection of weak magnetic fields. These signals can be generated by diverse origins, for example, brain electric activity, myocardium electric activity, and nuclear precession of hydrogen protons. In addition, weak current induced in the low-temperature detectors, for example,...

Review of Second Harmonic Generation Measurement Techniques for Material State Determination in Metals

This paper presents a comprehensive review of the current state of knowledge of second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements, a subset of nonlinear ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation techniques. These SHG techniques exploit the material nonlinearity of metals in order to measure the acoustic nonlinearity parameter,β. In these measurements, a second harmonic wave is generated from a propagati...

QUALITY CONTROL OF PRECIPITATION HARDENED ALUMINIUM ALLOY PARTS VIA EDDY-CURRENT NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION

Precipitation hardening is the most common method in the strengthening of aluminium alloys. This method relies on the decrease of solid solubility with temperature reduction to produce fine precipitations which impede the movement of dislocations. The quality control of aluminium alloy specimens is an important concern of engineers. Among different methods, non-destructive techniques are the...

Application of multivariate statistics and geostatistical techniques to identify the spatial variability of heavy metals in groundwater resources

The performance of geostatistical and spatial interpolation techniques for estimation of spatial variability of heavy metals and water quality mapping of groundwater resources in Ramiyan district (Golestan province- Iran) were investigated. 24 spring/well water samples were collected and the concentration of heavy metals (Ni, Co, Pb, Cd and Cu) was determined using Differential Pulse Polarograp...
